ABOUT US

ABOUT ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INC.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920 at the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by Five Pearls

Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings. & Fannie Pettie Watts

To these remarkable women, Zeta was more than an organization; it was part of a belief system that reflected, at its core, the desire to embrace Scholarship, provide true Service, set a standard for Sisterhood, and define Finer Womanhood. This belief has sustained and encouraged Zetas around the world to hold fast to the ideals initiated and developed by its beloved founding members.

About Beta Iota Zeta Chapter

In 1994, 7 Finer Women in Bloomington, IL had the desire to establish a graduate chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. to continue the principles of Scholarship, Service, and Sisterly Love beyond the Illinois State University campus. They were: Shwanda (Riley) Cross, Lolita Watkins, Rashawn (Matthews) Smith, LeGreta Hudson, Kristian “Krissie” Harris, Denise (Bausley) Nelson, and Pamela Hart.

As these women began to serve the community in the spirit of Finer Women, they attracted women of like mind and character.

Beta Iota Zeta Chapter was chartered on April 23, 1994 at the 1994 Great Lakes Regional Conference held at the Wyndham Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The finer women of Beta Iota Zeta Chapter are committed to upholding our organization’s principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love, and Finer Womanhood. As a result, we provide scholarships to graduating, college bound high school seniors to recognize scholastic achievement and involvement in community service. Our commitment is further exemplified in our service and programmatic thrusts. Past BIZ sponsored events include: poetry open mic & wine tasting, Trunk or Treat, and the Annual Blue Valentine, co-hosted with our brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Mu Sigma Chapter.

We continually serve the community by volunteering with organizations such as: BANSAGO, MAPS, Women Build, and March of Dimes.
